Historical Overview of Mathare North SDA Church

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Mathare North was organized on the 8Th July 1995. Some 84 bretheren covenanted before the Almighty God to associate to associate themselves as members of Mathare North local church of the worldwide SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH and agreed to BELIEVE AND LIVE the Gospel of our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ.

Mathare North which currently falls under Kariobangi District of Nairobi Station, Central Kenya Conference (CKC), East Africa Union, Central Africa Division was until 1995 a Sabbath School of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Kariobangi. Kariobangi Church itself was organized from Jericho Church, which was organized from Shauri Moyo Church, the oldest Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nairobi, Kenya.

Sabbath Schools
Currently, Mathare North Church has two sabbath schools namely Hall and Ngei. Hall Sabbath School congregates at Mathare North Social Hall, next to Mathare North City Council Market. Ngei Sabbath School congregates at Ngei Social Hall in the precints of Ngei Estate, next to Huruma Flats.

Previously, Mathare North had a number of sabbath schools, which comprised Survey of Kenya, National Youth Service (NYS), Baba Dogo and General Service Unit (GSU), all of which have since been updated to Church status.

The church is located to the North of Nairobi city center. It is accessible via the Outer-Ring Road, off Thika Road next to Ruaraka High School.

Over the last 14 years, our membership has by the grace of God grown from a paltry 84 to the current 842 members. It is our sincere prayer that the Holy Ghost of God will quicken us to baptize even more souls and to make this number grow exponentially before the glorious advent of the Lord. The 842 members do not however include some 600-700 nominal members (sabbath school members) whom we call "regular visitors" besides an approximate number of 500 - 600 children.
